In March there were 17 new ETFs and no ETNs launched. Ten ETFs were delisted. The number of US listed ETPs now stands at 971 (880 ETFs and 91 ETNs).

A total of 56 new ETPs have come out so far this year. Subtracting out the 10 closures during the first quarter yields a net increase of 46. The ten WisdomTree fund closures included an actively-managed one, dropping the number of actively-managed listings to 25.

The drop in trading was felt across the entire spectrum of ETPs: The ADVT for SDPR S&P 500 (SPY), the most heavily traded ETF, dropped more than -22% to just $19.4 billion. The number of ETPs trading more than $1 billion per day plunged from 14 to nine, while those trading more than $100 million per day dropped from 82 to 69.

Meanwhile, the number of products on Deathwatch (ADVT below $100,000 and more than six months on the market) increased from 104 to 108.
