The size of the ETF Billion Dollar Club held steady this month at 15 for the second month in a row. However, once again, there are changes in the roster.
HOLDRS Oil Services (OIH) is back on the list after barely missing the cutoff the past three months, and iShares MSCI EAFE (EFA) is back after a one-month absence. The two funds leaving the list were Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3x Shares (FAZ) and iShares DJ US Real Estate (IYR).
Trading activity in SPDR S&P 500 (SPY) was down for the month but still managed to swamp everything else. SPY had an Average Daily Value Traded (ADVT) of $21.4 Billion in June, down more than -9% from May. However, the June amount is still impressive. In fact, the trading in SPY was more than the next 11 most actively traded ETFs combined.
The trading in SPY was more than the combined total from 830 (98%) of the ETFs and ETNs with the lowest ADVT, representing 31.3% of all ETF traded value. The 15 current members of the exclusive ETF Billion Dollar Club, those with an ADVT in excess of $1 billion during the month of June, accounted for 67.2% of all ETF trading.
