Thank You Warren Buffet – WWY Buyout!

Way back on March 19th, this little-known publication called “Invest With An Edge” issued a buy recommendation on a well-known consumer staples stock. This stock had been steadily rising and showed signs of breaking out. The value of this company appeared secure, but for some reason we thought it had the potential to move much higher than it was. It turns out, this modest pick has become one of our biggest winners to date.
This morning, Mars Incorporated announced it was buying our mid-March Pick-of-the-Week, Wm Wrigley Jr. Co. (WWY). Partially financed by the bank of Warren Buffet, Mars will be paying $23 billion (or $80/share) in a cash transaction. Once combined, the new Mars-Wrigley will be the largest confection manufacturer in the world, displacing the still-formidable Cadbury-Schwepps.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Buffet commented, “There’s really nothing that can go wrong with something like the Wrigley and Mars brands. People are eating more and more of their products every day.” Although I tend to shy away from these types of categorical statements when it comes to share prices, who am I to argue with Warren Buffet? If there’s nothing that can go wrong, then we’re happy to enjoy the bump.
Our buy price on 3/20 was a dividend-adjusted $61.27 with commissions. At the time of this writing, WWY was trading at $76.99 — a full +25.6% more than our buy price. And this was one of our picks that hardly ever went negative. A safe pick, that paid out big time. Every once in awhile, these picks will surprise you. That’s why it’s important to own them all.
Just for the record, the S&P 500 is currently down -4% for the year. If you had bought all of our picks we’ve mentioned since we started our Picks-of-the-Week, you would be up +5.6%! We hope to see even bigger moves like WWY in the next few months.
If you’re not signing up for these picks already, do it today. There’s no charge and you’ll get them sooner than they’re posted on the website. We send them out every Wednesday afternoon — so you can buy on Thursday morning. Pick-of-the-Week FREE Signup.
All the best.
