John “Rogue” Schloegel discusses the merits of owning shares of Fronteer Development (FRG) in the current market environment. A “reflation theme” play with commodity exposure to gold, uranium, and copper. FRG’s balance sheet is rock solid and the upside based on their gold and uranium portfolio is substantial. InvestWithAnEdge.com is making this their Pick of the Week….

Fronteer’s exposure to uranium is through its 100% ownership of Aurora Energy Resources. Unfortunately Aurora’s uranium in Labardor are under a development moratoruim as stated on Aurora’s website below.

“The Project would be located on lands that fall under the jurisdiction of the Nunatsiavut Government. On April 8, 2008, the Nunatsiavut Government implemented a three-year moratorium on uranium mining on Labrador Inuit Lands, but continues to allow uranium exploration.”

Not all companies with uranium properties in the region are under the moratorium. Check out Bayswater Uranium, Mega Uranium and other companies.

    Jim,

Thx for the comments. Glad you are here.

Yes sir, we have thought a great deal about the moratorium. Recall, the market has a discounting mechanism built in. Eventhough the moratorium is thru 2011, the market will move well in advance of fact. Also, the size of the resource is exceptionally large and some would say rival the biggest of the big in Australia or elsewhere. Another thought, if the economic headwinds dont change between now and then, you can bet the Nunatsiavut Govt will be more open to – let’s call it – exploring ways to enhance the economic environment of their territory and finding creative ways to put people to work, provide economic stimulus, create jobs and prosperity, etc etc..get my drift? At some point the needs of the people will be the driver for an engagement with the likes of a Fronteer and a willingness to allow mining, and hopefully FRG can do it safely and with significant returns to the community.

But yes on all uraniums..we picked FRG especially due to their gold resources too, but the uranium complex is on fire. The Uranium ETF looks attractive – NLR, but certainly the Megas, Laramides, Paladins, Denisons, Pinetrees, etc etc..but maybe spread the love around and buy via the MarketVectors Nuclear Energy ETF. Good Luck!!
