The quantity of Exchange Traded Products listed on U.S. exchanges surged to 843 in November.  The month-end tally consists of 754 true ETFs and 89 Exchange Traded Notes (ETNs), which are actually bonds.  Thirty-five new ETFs became available amid the market turmoil during the month.

At least five more ETFs have announced their intention of shutting down before year-end, but no ETFs liquidated during the month.  Even though the number of ETFs meeting their demise this year has vastly eclipsed all previous years combined, the industry currently has 170 more listed products today than at the start of the year.

New products listed in November:

  • 8 Direxion 3x leveraged and inverse ETFs (BGU, TNA, ERX, FAS, BGZ, TZA, ERY, FAZ)
  • 2 iShares bond ETFs (SUB, AGZ)
  • 4 iShares asset allocation ETFs (AOK, AOM, AOR, AOA)
  • 8 iShares S&P target date ETFs (TGR, TZD, TZE, TZG, TZI, TZL, TZO, TZV)
